Palm Tran Celebrates 55 Years of Public Transit in Palm Beach County with Selfie Contest, 55-Year Bus Wrap.

  • September 14, 2026

Palm Tran is taking a trip back in time! To celebrate 55 years of public transit in Palm Beach County, we wrapped a bus in our old Co-Tran colors! If you see it on the road, snap a selfie! The first 20 people to post selfies can receive a 7-day bus pass on their Paradise Pass Account! *

The specially wrapped bus features the logos of Florida Transit Management, Co-Tran and Palm Tran, the different names of the public transit agency for Palm Beach County over the years. Along the sides are yellow, orange and green stripes, the colors of the agency when it was CoTran.

A Brief History of Public Transit in Palm Beach County

  • Aug. 2, 1971  Palm Beach County created a new publicly owned tranit operation which started  service on August 2, 1971.
  • 1971-1980 Palm Beach.County Transportation Authority (PBCTA), a.k.a. Florida Transit Management Inc. (FTM) is formed. There are five basic routes. However, a population explosion left FTM unable to cope with the flood of new ·passengers.
  • 1980 - 1995 PBCTA reinvents· FTM and now calls it COTRAN. Palm Beach County commissioners expressed concern with the situation, helped COTRAN obtain funds for new buses and expand routes. There are about 20 routes.
  • Aug. 6, 1996 Palm Tran starts with a clean slate. The fleet expanded from 44 buses to 123, driving on 33 routes.
