Palm Tran is in the process of implementing the Transit Signal Priority (TSP) system. TSP helps improve on-time performance by prioritizing traffic signals when a Palm Tran bus approaches a traffic light. Utilizing grant funding from the Florida Department of Transportation, we are installing TSP equipment and software on Palm Tran buses for signalized intersections along the US 1 corridor. Over the next five years, we plan to expand the program along Okeechobee Boulevard intersections and other major streets. Palm Tran is currently working with Palm Beach Fire Rescue and Palm Beach County Engineering to work towards the final implementation of this project.
Palm Tran provides service to nearly 3,000 bus stops located within 39 municipalities in Palm Beach County.
The Bus Shelter Replacement and Expansion program aims to upgrade, modify, and replace old or damaged bus shelters throughout Palm Beach County. This program includes modifying existing shelters to ensure ADA compliance and accessibility. It also allows for the installation of new bus shelters, which will be fully equipped with amenities such as solar lighting, benches, and real-time information. This program has an aggressive implementation schedule with the goal of installing 50 new shelters and replacing 20 shelters annually over a five-year span. Palm Tran is currently working with Palm Beach County Purchasing to finalize the contractual agreements needed to begin implementation. Once approved, Palm Tran will work closely with Palm Beach County Facilities and Development Operations (FDO) to begin construction.
